PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
COMPETITION GUIDELINES - LIVERPOOL WORKING LIVES
Your photograph should be taken in Merseyside and show what you feel to be the essence of Liverpool Working Lives. It can be a picture of your workplace or your journey to work, it can be a picture of people or objects but should show what you consider to be Working Lives in Liverpool. Entries will be judged on the interpretation of the theme as well as the skill involved in taking the picture.
The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers.
Each photograph may include a short narrative (up to 100 characters) describing the image, what it depicts and the ideas behind it. For professional photographers, this may include your contact details if you wish to be contacted about your picture.
The first prize winner in each class will be awarded a cash prize of £250, the second prize winner £100 and the third prize winner £50. In addition the winning photographs in each class will be printed, framed and exhibited at a city centre location during the summer of 2008 together with a selection of other entries.
Submitted entries will be placed on the website on a weekly basis.
The judges will be looking for:
- Interpretation of the competition's theme in terms of creativity, atmosphere, originality and impact
- Composition
- Focus
- The use of colour
- Accurate exposure
- Use of light
COMPETITION RULES - LIVERPOOL WORKING LIVES
- Each photographer may submit only one entry. Multiple entries will not be accepted.
- Entry is dependent on the submission of a valid email address.
- The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers, however the entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright and all other rights. It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, and not the Organisers, to ensure that they comply with these ownership and copyright and other rights requirements, that they own the rights to reproduction of their images and that the images which they submit are lawful and in accordance with these rules.
- We make no claims on your copyright. We will use images to promote and publicise the competition but you will be given full credit.
- Entries can only be made via the website by means of the on-line form. Postal entries, or entries made in any form whatsoever other than via the website, will not be accepted.
- A valid email address must be provided with your entry and entries without a valid email address will not be accepted.
- The Organisers cannot be held responsible for any entries that are not received. As all entries are digital, no images will be returned at the end of the competition.
- The Organisers reserve the right to refuse to accept any images that contain offensive or inappropriate content. The criteria for such content is solely at the discretion of the Organisers.
- The maximum file size is 200 KB.The maximum width is 500 pixels and the maximum height is also 500 pixels. The website will automatically scale down larger images.
- For help resizing your picture, there are a number of image editors such as www.webresizer.com available free online.
- The narrative supplied with the photograph may be published on the website alongside the image or displayed with the image at exhibition. The screen name submitted will appear with your photograph on the website; if you do not specify a screen name no name will be published.
- All entries must be received by the Organisers by 5 p.m. on Friday 6th June. No entries will be accepted after that time and date.
- By entering this competition, prizewinners agree to their success being publicised by the Organisers.
- By claiming the prize, the winner authorises the use, without additional compensation, of his or her name and/or likeness and/or voice/photograph and city of residence for promotion and/or advertising purposes in any manner and in any medium (including without limitation, radio broadcasts, newspapers and other publications and in television or film releases, slides, videotape, distribution over the internet and picture date storage) which the Organisers may deem appropriate.
- Competitors agree to allow the Organisers the rights for one year from the
closing date of the competition, to use any submitted image for promotional
purposes of this competition in any media format and to alter, crop, montage
those images with the consent of the contributor.

The Organisers of the competition will not be held responsible for misuse by
any third party of images published on the website if not supplied to the
third party by the Organisers.
